InBody Body Composition Scan

An InBody scan measures muscle mass, body fat, visceral fat, hydration and metabolic rate, so your plan can be built around what your body is actually made of rather than weight alone. A scan is already included in every consultation and every package session. These prices are for scans booked on their own.

Medicare and What You Will Actually Pay

NutriBlooms is not a bulk-billing clinic. If you have a valid referral, Medicare pays a rebate towards your appointment and you pay the difference. That difference is called the gap fee, and we would rather you knew it before you booked than after.

AppointmentFeeRebateYou pay
Initial (60 min)$219$63.40$155.60
Follow-up (30 min)$110$63.40$46.60

You pay the full fee on the day and we process your Medicare rebate on the spot, so the rebate is usually back in your account within a few days.

How the referral works

From 1 July 2025 the GP Management Plan and Team Care Arrangements were replaced by a single GP Chronic Condition Management Plan. In practice this made things simpler:

  • Your GP refers you with an ordinary referral letter. The old structured form is gone
  • Your GP no longer has to name the dietitian or state how many sessions you need, so you choose who you see
  • You can access up to 5 subsidised individual allied health services per calendar year, or 10 for people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Those sessions are shared across every allied health provider you see, not 5 with each profession
  • Your referral stays valid for 18 months from your first session
  • Plans written before 1 July 2025 can still be used until 30 June 2027

Medicare rebate amounts are set by the Australian Government and reviewed each 1 July. The $63.40 figure above is current as at 1 July 2026. You can confirm the current amount on the Services Australia website.

You do not need a referral to see us. A referral is only needed if you want to claim the Medicare rebate. Our referrals page explains the process for you and for your GP.

Other Ways to Pay

  • Private health insurance — if your extras cover includes dietetics, you can claim on the spot. We have HICAPS at all six clinics. Rebate amounts vary by fund and policy, so check with your insurer to confirm what you are covered for
  • NDIS — we support plan-managed and self-managed participants, and fees are charged in line with the current NDIS Pricing Arrangements. See our NDIS dietitian page
  • DVA — we accept referrals for veterans. Call us and we will confirm what is covered under your referral before you book
  • WorkCover — accepted with an approved claim and a referral
  • Support at Home and aged care — dietitian services can be funded through your Support at Home budget. See our home care dietitian page

Payment, Cancellations and Expiry

Payment

Payment is due on the day of your appointment. For telehealth appointments we collect payment details when the booking is made. Packages and programs are paid upfront, which is what allows your dietitian to begin preparing your plan before the first session.

Cancellations and rescheduling

We know your time is valuable, and ours is too. When you book your appointment you are holding a space in our calendar that is no longer available to other patients. In order to be respectful of our team and other patients, we require 48 hours notice by phone if rescheduling is necessary.

Patients who give less than 48 hours notice or do not attend their scheduled appointment will receive a cancellation fee. Thank you for your understanding.

Package expiry and changes

Package sessions have no expiry date, so you can work through them at a pace that suits you. Because packages are prepared and scheduled in advance, we are not able to offer refunds once a package has started. If your circumstances change, please talk to us — we will do our best to work something out with you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Fees

How much does a dietitian consultation cost at NutriBlooms?

An initial 60-minute consultation is $219 and a follow-up 30-minute consultation is $110. Both include an InBody body composition scan. The same fees apply at all six of our Melbourne clinics and by telehealth.

Do I need a referral to see a dietitian?

No. You can book directly with any of our dietitians without a referral. A referral from your GP is only needed if you want to claim a Medicare rebate, or if you are being funded through DVA or WorkCover.

How many Medicare-subsidised sessions can I have?

Up to 5 individual allied health services per calendar year, or 10 for people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, or 20 for eating disorder care plans. These sessions are shared across every allied health provider you see, not 5 with each profession. Your referral stays valid for 18 months from your first session.

Can I claim through my private health insurance?

Yes, if your extras cover includes dietetics. We have HICAPS at all six clinics so you can claim on the spot at your appointment. Rebate amounts vary by fund and policy, so check with your insurer to confirm what you are covered for.

Do package sessions have an expiry date?

No. Both the New Client Package and the Review Sessions Package can be used at your own pace, with no expiry date.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

We ask for at least 48 hours notice by phone. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours notice, or missed without notice, attract a cancellation fee.

Is there an extra cost for telehealth or home visits?

Telehealth consultations are the same price as an in-clinic appointment. Home visits are charged at the standard consultation fee plus a travel fee, which we quote for your suburb before anything is booked.

Are you a bulk-billing clinic, and what will I pay out of pocket?

No, NutriBlooms is not a bulk-billing clinic. With a valid GP referral, Medicare pays a rebate of $63.40 per eligible session and you pay the balance. That works out to $155.60 for an initial consultation and $46.60 for a follow-up.
